Andrés Gluski was named President and CEO of The AES Corporation in 2011, a Fortune 200 company.  AES is a diversified power generation and utility company with operations in 17 countries and 35,000 Megawatts (MW) of capacity from a mix of fuel sources, including renewables and thermal generation.  AES also has more than 9 million distribution customers.  Under Andrés’ leadership, the company recently signed an agreement to acquire sPower, the largest independent solar developer in the United States with 1,300 MW of installed capacity and a pipeline of over 10,000 MW.

AES is a world leader in the deployment of lithium ion battery-based energy storage and grid stability with 204 MW in operation and 272 MW under construction, contracted or in advanced stage development.  AES recently commissioned the largest battery-based energy storage project in the world for San Diego Gas & Electric – a 30 MW, four-hour duration energy storage project and a second smaller 7.5 MW project.   AES was the recipient of the Edison Electric Institute’s (EEI) 2016 International Edison award for its deployment of Advancion®  4, its fourth generation, grid-scale, battery-based energy storage platform.

Prior to his current position, Andrés served as Chief Operating Officer, President for Latin America and CEO of AES Gener in Chile. He also held senior positions in banking, telecom, the IMF and the public sector before joining AES in 2000.  Mr. Gluski has served as an expert witness at US Congressional hearings on the subject of energy policy and Latin America. In 2012, he was named International CEO of the year by Latin Trade Magazine.  From 2013-2016 he served on President Obama’s Export Council. Mr. Gluski currently serves on the US-Brazil CEO Forum and the US-India CEO Forum. He is a member of the Board of The AES Corporation, Waste Management, and AES Gener in Chile. He is also Chairman of the Americas Society/Council of the Americas, and Director of the Edison Electric Institute.  Mr. Gluski is a magna cum laude graduate of Wake Forest University and earned his MA and PhD in economics from the University of Virginia.
